Track and field athletics is a collection of sports events that involve running, throwing, jumping and walking. Organised athletics are traced back to the Ancient Olympic Games from 776 BC.

The majority of track and field competitions are organized in the form of athletics meetings during which multiple athletic events are be held on an oval 400 metre running track and on the field enclosed by the track. Participating athletes may compete in one or more events, according to their specialties.
